Seven-inch recessed can lights occupy a less common size bracket that appears frequently in hospitality and upscale retail projects where designers want a larger ceiling aperture without moving to a full 8-inch fixture. They're also found in existing commercial buildings from the 1980s and 1990s that were originally specified with R30 or PAR38 incandescent sources in 7-inch housings.

For renovation projects, 7-inch is primarily a retrofit story: the goal is finding LED modules, LED retrofit kits, or replacement trim that fits an existing housing. LED output at this size runs from about 800 lumens for accent applications up to 1,500 or more lumens for high-ceiling general illumination. Beam angle selection covers spot, flood, and wide-flood distributions.

New construction 7-inch housings are less common but are available for projects where the larger aperture is part of the architectural specification. Confirm housing availability and lead times on new construction projects where this size is specified.
