Standard channel strip lights are the baseline fluorescent fixture for commercial and institutional lighting. These single-row fixtures mount directly to the ceiling or structural members, housing T8 or T5HO lamps in a painted steel housing with an integral ballast. They are the most common fixture type in schools, offices, retail back rooms, and light industrial settings where cost-effectiveness and straightforward maintenance are the primary specification drivers.
Standard channel strips are available in 4-foot and 8-foot lengths in 1-lamp, 2-lamp, and 3-lamp configurations. White-painted reflectors improve delivered lumen output compared to an open-housing design, and specifying higher-reflectance housings can improve efficiency without changing the wattage. Acrylic or prismatic lenses are available for applications where direct lamp visibility is a concern, and LED versions eliminate the need for a separate lamp and ballast maintenance program.
