Square metallic electrical boxes are the workhorse of commercial conduit wiring systems. The 4-inch and 4-11/16-inch formats are the most common sizes in commercial new construction, used for device boxes, junction points, and pull boxes throughout a conduit run.
A single square box accepts a mud ring or single-gang device cover in different configurations, giving contractors flexibility to adapt box locations to changing field conditions without replacing the rough-in box. Square boxes are available with 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch conduit knockouts in standard and deeper profiles for higher conductor fill requirements per NEC calculations.
Matching square covers include blank covers for junction points, raised single-gang and two-gang device covers for receptacle and switch locations, and flat covers for low-profile surface applications. Surface knockouts and pry-outs allow multiple conduit entry points on any face of the box, supporting the flexible conduit routing typical in commercial projects.
