Mercury vapor lamps are one of the earliest high-intensity discharge technologies and remain in service in many older commercial and industrial installations. Common wattages run from 50W to 1000W in BT, ET, and R-shape bulb types. Although newer installations now favor metal halide and LED sources, mercury vapor lamps remain a necessary replacement part for facilities maintaining existing fixtures before a full retrofit is budgeted.

These lamps operate on a self-ballasted or externally ballasted circuit depending on the fixture design. For externally ballasted systems, a compatible HID Ballast is required.
