Red or Green Exit Signs: The Jurisdiction Question
National codes do not mandate a letter color; the authority having jurisdiction does. The practical rule: match the existing signs in the building, and on new construction confirm color with the local AHJ before ordering a caseload. - Annually: run a full 90-minute discharge test and confirm illumination holds for the entire period; replace the battery on any unit that drops out early.
- Log every test with date, unit location, and result; keep records available for the AHJ.
