Traditional high bay fixtures use a round, industrial housing to distribute light in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, gymnasiums, and distribution centers. These fixtures were originally designed around HID lamp technology including metal halide and high pressure sodium, and remain in use in facilities that have not yet converted to LED. The round form factor concentrates light directly below the fixture, making them well-suited for single-aisle layouts and wide-bay industrial spaces where downward illuminance is the primary design goal.

Many traditional high bay housings accept direct LED lamp retrofits or LED retrofit kits, allowing facility managers to capture energy savings without replacing the entire fixture. Alternatively, full LED replacements can be mounted in the same positions using existing pendant or hook hardware. When specifying replacements, compare the maintained lumen output at the work surface rather than just the fixture wattage to ensure adequate illuminance levels across the facility.
