Recessed architectural troffers combine the clean ceiling profile of a recessed fixture with direct/indirect light distribution to reduce glare and improve vertical illumination. They're the preferred choice for open-plan offices, healthcare facilities, and higher-education spaces where visual comfort matters as much as foot-candles on the desk.

These fixtures mount into a lay-in ceiling grid but project below the ceiling plane to deliver uplight into the plenum and downlight onto the work surface simultaneously. The result is a more uniform, less contrasty lighting environment than standard flat-panel troffers produce. Suspended versions are also available for use in spaces without a drop ceiling.

Most architectural troffers carry DLC Premium listings and support 0-10V dimming. Color tuning (CCT-selectable or warm-dim) is available on select models for environments where circadian lighting is part of the specification. Lumens-per-watt performance typically runs 100 to 130+ LPW on current-generation LED versions.
