Westgate's new CMC-2Tone Series gives an electrical contractor one platform to bid across that whole scope instead of three or four disconnected part numbers, and it is worth knowing the range before it shows up as an approved-equal request or a submittal alternate.

The Platform

Every size in the CMC-2Tone line runs the same core engineering, which is the actual argument for treating it as one line item on a submittal instead of three separate ones. Dual dimming covers both TRIAC (line voltage) and 0-10V (low voltage), universal voltage runs 120 to 277V on the same driver, and CCT is field-selectable across 3000K, 4000K, and 5000K. The fixture is damp location rated, so it is not confined to fully conditioned interior spaces.

The selectable design goes further than CCT. Each catalog number also bundles all three wattage taps for its size. The 4" fixture, for example, ships as one part number that covers 15W, 20W, and 25W. A wattage and CCT selector on the driver sets the output in the field, so the SKU on the shelf and the SKU the plan calls for are usually the same part number.

The Range

A contractor bidding this line needs to match beam angle and output to the space, not just the finish. The table below lines up all three sizes against beam angle, wattage range, and lumen output calculated from the spec sheet's stated 80 lumens per watt.

Each size ships in all four two-tone finishes. Catalog numbering follows the same pattern across the line: CMC3-2TONE-MCTP-DD, CMC4-2TONE-MCTP-DD, or CMC6-2TONE-MCTP-DD, followed by the finish code (WHBN, WHGD, BKBN, or BKGD). How to Pick Within the Family

Finish and CCT selection sits with whoever wrote the spec, the designer, architect, or in a retrofit scenario the owner or facility manager choosing the look. That is not a knock on the contractor's judgment, it is simply not the contractor's decision to make on a job with an approved submittal. Where the contractor's read matters is different: is the specified size and beam angle actually buildable at the ceiling height and spacing on the reflected ceiling plan, and if the spec is open or a substitution is on the table, which size and wattage tap gets the target foot-candle level without a redesign.

A few practical notes for that read. The 3" at a 30° beam reads as a tight accent, closer to a display light than a room downlight. The 4" at 45° is the workhorse of the line for general spacing in a lobby or dining room. The 6" at a narrower 25° beam is built for a longer throw, useful on higher ceilings where a wider beam would wash out before it reaches the floor. When a spec is open on wattage, matching the tap to the room's existing foot-candle target from the lighting plan is the safer move than guessing; if that target is not on the drawings, that is a question for the designer of record, not a field decision.

Sourcing and Installation Across the Line

If a set of plans calls for this fixture in an open patio or anywhere it takes weather directly, that is a wet-location fixture conversation with the designer, not a field substitution.

Dual dimming is a real jobsite variable worth checking before rough-in, not just a spec sheet line item. TRIAC dimming runs off the switch leg like a standard line-voltage dimmer; 0-10V needs a dedicated low-voltage control wire run back to the dimmer or controller. Confirming which dimming method the panel schedule and the switch legs actually support, before the ceiling is closed up, avoids a return trip.

Universal 120-277V voltage means the same catalog number works whether the circuit is a standard 120V branch or a 277V commercial panel, which matters on a campus job with mixed building types or on any project where the electrical scope is not fully locked when the material gets ordered.

The suspension cable and canopy accessory line converts the fixture from a flush ceiling mount to a pendant, sold separately in 8, 12, and 20 foot lengths, in black or white to match the fixture finish. That is useful when a soffit depth or ceiling condition in the field does not match what the reflected ceiling plan assumed, since the same fixture head can go either way without a change order on the fixture itself, only the mounting accessory.

This series fits where a plain surface-mount downlight would read as too utilitarian and a fully custom decorative fixture is not in the budget: hotel and multifamily lobby corridors, restaurant and bar dining rooms, boutique retail sales floors, and reception or conference areas in a Class A office buildout.
